Why scan the environment?

In the same way as coordination is required at the operational level, strategic leadership and direction is required to help the SAR sector to operate effectively and efficiently in the face of a rapidly evolving global and domestic environment.
If the recent COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that, much like search and rescue activity itself, preparation is key. Knowing what lies ahead can make the key difference between success and failure.
If you do not know what the future may hold, you cannot prepare for it effectively.
In short, for the SAR sector to implement its Strategic Plan effectively, the Council and all of its partners across the SAR sector need to understand how the environment in which it operates is changing.
